The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman weighs in on the Marvel vs DC debate.

One of the biggest debates going on right now with movie goers (as well as comic fans) is who is better; Mavel or DC? Even though it seems that Marvel clearly has the upper hand with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) being around for quite a few years now, DC has announced their own plans to build the DC universe in their films now.

Right now, Marvel has a line up for the next 5 years that is pretty stand out amazing. At this point fans know how Marvel Studios is handling their characters and trust them to put out stellar films.

On the other hand, DC has announced quite a bit of films themselves (some of which are definitely exciting) but it is still not known 100% the tone that the DC universe will take or how Warner Bros. will handle the DC characters.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman was asked on his opinion on the Marvel vs DC debate and he gave a great answer.
"“ I’m going to get in trouble here … Anyone would be foolish to think that Marvel hasn’t done something extremely special. I think of Iron Man ending with with a surprise cameo from Samuel L. Jackson [mentioning] The Avengers – you were like, ‘What?! How did that happen?!’ People forget that was a surprise. Everything that came out of that was very organic and very exciting. I think [DC] announcing you’re going to do a Justice League movie after a Superman movie, that was neat and had some awesome things in it, but it wasn’t like amazing or groundbreaking – I shouldn’t have said that. It was an awesome movie, I like it. [The plan] just seems derivative, so it puts them in a backseat position to Marvel. It’s not organic so there’s going to be so much scrutiny on Batman vs. Superman when it comes out. It’s got an uphill battle. If they hadn’t told anybody if the Justice League were going to appearing in that, and they were forming that, it would have been surprising and exciting and weird. People are forgetting how important the surprise is. But, you know, Aquaman looks awesome and I’m sure it will be great.”"
I have to say that I completely agree with Kirkman's response. After what Marvel has set up with their MCU it was fully expected that DC would soon follow suit and the element of surprise was completely gone when they announced their plans. Without that surprise, it just wasn't the same. DC is also taking some very interesting choices in not including their TV lineups into their cinematic universe. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter have had some amazing stories and set some pretty solid ground work for the MCU in coming films. Arrow, The Flash, Constantine, Gotham, and other upcoming shows like Supergirl could have done this for DC.

How do you feel? Do you agree with what Kirkman has to say concerning the Marvel vs DC debate?
